Why the GIA Diamond Grading Scale?

Trust is so important to us in everything that we do here at Allurigem. We except nothing less than the best for our customers and some may even say we are a little high maintenance when it comes to our quality standards (which might be true). We've found that true passion leads to innovation and awesomeness and that is what the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is when it comes to diamonds and gemstones. GIA is passion, genius, and excellence all wrapped up in one innovative package with a pretty diamond bow, and we love it!

So Here's the Scoop: They've been the 1st for Forever

Ok, a little quick history lesson here (promise it'll be short). GIA was established in 1931 and has been an industry leader ever since. The nonprofit institute is set on educating everyone, not just jewelers, on diamonds and gemstones, what to look for, and what quality truly is. To do so, GIA continually introduced patented technologies from as early as the 1930's to further the knowledge of diamonds and gemstones for all in the industry. They developed a Graduate Gemologist program and created THE universal grading scale for the color and clarity of diamonds.

The 4C's

Ever heard of the 4C's? If you have been looking to purchase an engagement ring or a piece of diamond jewelry for any time at all, there is a chance you have seen the 4C's a few times. The 4C's refer to cut, color, clarity, and carat. They are the defining characteristics of a diamond's personality and the criteria everyone wants to know about a diamond. Well, GIA created the 4C's AND the diamond grading report that the diamond industry uses today.

Are There Other Organizations that Grade Diamonds?

There are numerous agencies and organizations out today that grade diamonds you may spot in the market such as EGL, AGI, and various others and they all may be good but they aren't GIA. Each organization can interpret the elements of a diamond differently depending on what their standards are but GIA standards are accepted across the industry as being the most scientifically accurate. SCIENCE!

Why do we Love GIA so Much?

Here's the thing, we may have a little corporate crush on GIA. Why? Because they are THE diamond grading authority. Period. They are top dog, leaders of the pack, the way-pavers, the innovators, and THE TRUSTED source for all things diamond and gemstone. So, because they are the best and we accept nothing but the best for our customers every single time, we trust them wholeheartedly and that my friends, is why we at Allurigem use GIA.
